I started performing at about 5 years old. Y'know, pantomimes with Miss Robyn's Ballet School, guitar school recitals and the home made productions put together by my older cousin Maria for Grandad's visits to Australia. I don't remember making a conscious choice to do it ... I think performance chose me. I did however begin a long romance with music and to this day we have never had an argument. I am not even bitter that my first guitar came from K-Mart.
After finishing school I studied at Brisbane's "Rock School" in the inaugural alumni and at a recent 20 year reunion we were all heard to mention that by a miracle we are still working in music. A good outcome for a TAFE course in Queensland! I spent the 90's in bands in the heyday of Brisbane's live music scene which was exciting and provided many opportunities to play in the amazing venues of the time (some still going!) like The Zoo, Ric's, The Healer etc. The live music community was vibrant and welcoming and I am proud to say that many of the associations I made then have turned in to wonderful friendships today. And we are all still working but as it was the early years, most of us won't list all the bands we've been in. That would be just awkward.
In the early 2000's I began to diversify my performance style and discovered the world of cabaret and comedy. I had always been the funny friend who cracked everyone up but through a series of chance gigs I found myself actually doing it on stage and the people that witnessed it referred to me as a comedian. Really? A comedian? And off I went into the performance world of 'being funny' feeling like once again it chose me.
Fast forward to right now and all of these things have combined to see me do a variety of work locally and beyond. I have been QLD finalist for the JJJ RAW Comedy Comp and perform stand up if asked nicely. I am a radio announcer for 4zzz Radio and co-produce popular weekly show Dykes on Mykes. I have MC'd shows for the Brisbane Cabaret Festival and freelance as a comedic performance artist as requested. My guitar playing can be found in alt-country roots band Kristy Apps and The Shotgun Shirleys and also as a freelance player when asked.
Finally, I am really blessed to be able to do all of these things. I love it and despite being a chronic work-a-holic, I am very grateful to anyone that has supported my work or in fact anyone that is still reading this blurb. Examples of my work can be found around this site and if something I do interests you then please get in touch.
